Summer Daze: How to avoid impeding boredom (pt.1)

For college students it has already come. For high school students, it is coming. Summer. A three month long period away from school. unless you are taking summer classes and then your life sucks. Being home from college for the summer is a strange experience. Although it is nice to catch up with old friends, and share stories about wild nights and new friends, I have found myself spending most of my time sleeping, eating, and being incredibly bored. I have found a few things that have ameliorated my boredom. Here is a quick of list of things to do to get the hamster on the wheel in your brain to keep running.

If you have Netflix, check out these shows.

Sherlock - A 21st century take on the classic tale of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. Attractive protagonist, British accents, high speed mystery, what are you waiting for!?

Downton Abbey - This highly entertaining drama focuses on the inhabitants of Downton Abbey, the Crawley family and their servants. A period piece set in the days before World War I and those that follow, Downton Abbey has all the juicy drama of Gossip Girl, but is also educational.

Friday Night Lights - A up close look of a small Texas Football town and the relationships of the people that live in it. Having cheered for a 5A football team I know the drama can be intense. Take a look at this highly addictive show and get your sports kick.

I have two guest recommendations,

This one comes from my older sibling Harrell, who has a penchant for science fiction. He stands by the highly entertaining and simultaneously terrifying The Walking Dead. You're in for a thrill ride as the survivors attempt to survive in a zombie apocalypse.

The second comes from my father, who loves a good battle for glory in an imaginary world. He recommends Game of Thrones, a compelling series that follows the battle between seven families over the imaginary land of Westeros. Think King Arthur meets Lord of the Rings, with a spicy Tudors flare. Disclaimer: don't watch it with your parents, it gets a bit... awkward.

Take up crafting! Here are some fun crafts I have accumulated on Pinterest.
Crystal Eggs - These are "just fo decoration" but I think they are so cool looking!

Braided Headbands - Being a headband fanatic I really loved these because it also gives you the opportunity to recycle old t-shirts, which I have plenty of. Also a cool thing would be to tye dye a shirt or bleach it out to get more interesting patterns for your hair accesories.

Gradient Nail Polish - The whole crazy crafty hipster nail polish thing has become so popular but I felt like they were all just pretty pictures that you could never realistically do at home.. until I found this. I mean if you suck at doing your nails you may still suck at doing your nails with this method... But in my personal opinion it would be worth a shot. So fun to do for 4th of July in a red white and blue.. Or for the other great holiday of the summer the 4th of August, in a classic pink Carly gradient, for my birthday of course. There is always also the option of putting Barack Obama's face on your nails, because he shares that day with me. Or Louis Vuitton.. But really which set of nails look best?

That's all for now because I have been dying to post this and I know you all probably don't have the attention span to listen to me rant any longer!

XOXO,
ACE
