What is this thing I call "the Group Text," you may ask....
A group text, or group text message, is a text message in which 3 or more people are members of, meaning that at some point, one individual sent the same message using iPhone group messaging to 2 or more people. The result: sheer chaos.
Let's make a list of Pros and Cons.
Pros:
-Rapid fire communication between 2-9 other people.
-The atmosphere of a group chat online, but directly to your phone.
-Having your questions quickly answered. If I don't know whether or not chapter is formal I just text my group text of DG's and say "Formal Chap?" and I get an immediate response, because even if 4 of the people are in class, 5 aren't! And they can respond to me, and send me cool anchors, and.. stuff.
-Pure entertainment. I have a group text with my friends from the floor of the dorm that I lived on, and they always provide me with riotous laughter with ridiculous photographs.
-Now that I am far away from the hallowed halls of Ole Miss, I can stay in constant communication with my friends from afar, getting updates about their lives on a daily, hourly, and every minute basis.
- People think I am popular. People like me they really like me. When I am getting my nails done and my phone keeps going off I appear to be very important, or very well loved.
Cons:
-Constant irritation. My phone is on vibrate. My phone is vibrating 20 times a minute. Slightly hyperbolic, but only slightly.
-More irritation. Im sleeping, its noon, I'm lazy, but I'm tired and I keep being woken by the buzzing hum of my phone.
-That awkward moment when you aren't friends with someone in the group text anymore. How do you casually start a new group text?
-You are with a group of four people. Three people are in a group text. Person four finds out...
-MORE IRRITATION... you need something an no one will respond to you in the group text, inferiority complex kicks in. Are they mad at me? Am I that friend that they can't seem to kick out of the text?
-Thanks to the geniuses at Apple, YOU CANT LEAVE THE GROUP TEXT. There is no off button to one specific text. You will always be a member.
Group texting is like a double edged sword. It rocks. It sucks. All around I can't live with or without it. But actually I have to live with it because you can't escape it. So beware, next time you make verbalized plans with 2 or more people, it will come.

ACE
